Area Church Updates
• Community Social Day at Renner’s St. Paul UCC will be held from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. on September 9. There will be a meal for the cost of a donation and plenty of activities throughout the afternoon event. The church is located at 7620 Renner Road near Fresno.
• “Rockin’ Wednesdays” will start on September 8 at Roscoe United Methodist Church located at 475 High Street in Coshocton. Supper will be served from 5:15 - 6 p.m., and the evening program will be held from 6 - 7 p.m. There are several age groups. For more info, call 740-622-7780.
• Senior breakfasts for attendees of Berlin Mennonite Church are once again being planned. The first event will be Thursday, September 9 at 8:30 a.m. at Der Dutchman in Walnut Creek. It will continue to be held on the second Thursday of each month.
• Camp Luz Father Son Retreat will be held September 10 - 11. This retreat is geared for sons who are 9 - 15 years old, though all ages of fathers and sons are invited, (grandfathers too). The group will be staying in cabins and doing outdoor activities most of the time, weather permitting.
• Youth Worker training for those who work with youth will be held at Camp Luz on September 11. The training is titled, “Shaped by the Story.” Guest speaker is Michael Novelli. For more info, contact Joe Troyer at jtroyer2@gmail.com
• Beech Mennonite Church in Louisville is holding a Craft Show and Children’s Carnival on Saturday, September 11 from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Everyone is invited to attend. There will be vendors, food and more. Proceeds from the day will be donated to Shepherds Gate Child Care. For more info, call 330-875-3464.
• Circle of Care at Berlin Mennonite Church will meet on Saturday, September 11 at 9 a.m. at the church. Paula Sanchez from Walnut Hills will be speaking about activities caregivers can do with those they care for.
• Crimson Steam will be at Union Hill United Methodist Church (temporary address of 531 Dover Road in the former Sugarcreek Free Methodist Church Complex) on Sunday, September 12 for the 10:30 a.m. Worship Service.
• The next meeting of the group of area churches known as 4UCC4Christ will be held on September 12 at the Zion UCC in Baltic. October’s meeting will be October 10 at Fiat St. Peter’s UCC.
• A prayer shawl ministry is held each Monday at 7 p.m. at the Sugarcreek First United Church of Christ located at 526 West Main Street in Sugarcreek. The group will meets in the Heritage Room of the church. New or experienced knitters or crocheters are welcome to attend.
• Circle of Friends Ministries will host a Bible Study at the New Grounds Cafe in Walnut Creek beginning Monday, September 20 at 7 p.m. It will be led by Jocelyn Hamsher. • A “Day with God and Self” will be held on Tuesday, September 14 at the Prettyman Center at Pilgrim Hills from 9:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Cost is $30 per person. For more information, call 1-800-282-0740. A winter session devoted to reconnecting with God through silence, worship and nature is set for Saturday, November 6.
• The next session of GriefShare at Berlin Mennonite Church, led by Janice Hershberger, will begin on September 15 and continue each Wednesday night from 7 - 8:30 p.m. through December 15. Meetings will be held in the fellowship hall. Call 330-893-2320 to register.
• A free community meal, put together by the Union Hill United Methodist Church in Sugarcreek, will be held Wednesday, September 15 from 4:30 - 7 p.m. at the Sugarcreek Senior Center located at 212 South Broadway Street in Sugarcreek. The menu this month is lasagna, tossed salad, garlic bread and dessert. Everyone is encouraged to attend the event that is set for the third Wednesday of every month. • The annual fellowship dinner of the India Evangelical Mission will be held on Friday, September 17 at 6:30 p.m. at the Carlisle Village Inn at Walnut Creek. Founder and director of the mission, Dr. G.V. Mathasi with his wife Mariamma and son Dayan will be speaking. A special music program will begin at 6:15 p.m. and be led by Reuben Hostetler Musicians. A meal will be served. The adult-oriented banquet program is free. • A fall Ladies’ Bible Study will be held at the Berlin Mennonite Church on Tuesdays beginning on September 21 at 9:30 a.m. It will be Beth Moore’s study “Beloved Disciple: The Life and Ministry of John.” A similar study will be offered at Berlin Christian Fellowship in the evening for those who are not able to make it to a morning discussion. • Common Ground Ministries will hold its annual fall banquet on Wednesday, September 22 at 6:30 p.m. at the Carlisle Inn at Walnut Creek. Special guest will be Art Schlichter, former OSU quarterback. Free admission. Offering will be taken.
• The Women of Faith Book Club of Sugarcreek’s First United Church of Christ will meet Thursday, September 23 at 7 p.m. in the church parlor. Susie Immel will lead a discussion of Cathy Liggett’s “Beaded Hope.”
• A chicken barbecue will be held on Saturday, September 25 in Baltic at the parking lot of the former grocery store. The sale will benefit the needs of St. Peter’s Fiat UCC and mission work. • Sign up is underway for a Beth Moore Bible Study to begin October 7 at Sugarcreek First United Church of Christ. The title of the study is “A Woman’s Heart, God’s Dwelling Place.”
• A benefit car raffle of a 1968 Chevrolet Camaro SS will be held on November 20. A total of 2,000 tickets will be sold for $50 each. • Mennonite Voluntary Service is looking for volunteers for several high-need placements in the 2010-2011 season. Among them, MVS is seeking a person to volunteer as a paralegal for ProBar in Harlingen, Texas. Fluency in Spanish is required. ProBar is an organization that helps guide refugees.
